Notice No. 5 for Settlers ("Spouses of Japanese Nationals" and "Spouses of Settlers")
The "Notification No. 5 for Settlers" refers to the following three categories:
- Category I: Spouse of a person who holds "Spouse of a Japanese National" status
- Category II: Spouse of a person who holds a "Settler" visa, excluding Category III and IV (Japanese descendants of the second or third generation)
- Category III: Spouse of a person who holds a "Settler" visa under Category III or IV (Japanese descendants of the second or third generation). It is necessary for the spouse to have a "good conduct."
Category I: This category includes individuals who lost their Japanese nationality due to being born overseas and not filing a report of retention of nationality within three months after birth.
Category II: This category applies to spouses of settlers.
Category III: This category applies to spouses of individuals who hold a "Settler" visa under Category III or IV.
The required documents are as follows:
- Application for Certificate of Eligibility for Residence Status or Application for Certificate of Eligibility for Residence Status
- Photo (H4cm x W3cm)
- Certificate of Acceptance of Marriage (if filed with a Japanese municipal office)
- Copy or statement of the applicant's savings passbook
- Employment contract of the applicant
- Certificate of current employment of the applicant (in case of change)
- Certificate of current employment or dependency of the person supporting the stay expenses
- Tax certificate or tax payment certificate of the person supporting the stay expenses
- Copy or statement of the savings passbook of the person supporting the stay expenses
- Letter of guarantee
- Resident certificate with the information of all household members
- Certificate of recognition issued by a foreign institution (if applicable)
- Official document proving the applicant's identity (ID card, driver's license, military service certificate, voter registration card, etc.)
- Questionnaire
- Snap photo
