calendar-icon 2023/06/28

Foreign nationals who are highly skilled professionals or their spouses, and their children under the age of 7 (including adopted children), are allowed to enter and stay in Japan to care for their children or to provide necessary support such as assistance with household chores to their pregnant spouse who is a highly skilled professional. The parents of the foreign national or their spouse are also allowed to enter and stay in Japan for this purpose.

However, if the child of the highly skilled professional or their spouse reaches the age of 7, the parents will no longer be allowed to stay in Japan as a preferential treatment. In this case, their residence status will not be immediately and necessarily revoked, but their residence period will not be renewed.
